Relocation in Texas

In 1519 Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda passed along Texas shore. On November 6 in 1528 conquistador Alvar Cobeza de Vaca was first European, who made a step on land of Texas. Cabeza de Vaca and Coronado were in inner areas in 1541. First settlement was founded by Spaniards in regeon of Yesleta near El Paso in 1682. Americans came here in the beginning of 19th century. Texas was part of Mexico while this country obtained independence from Spain in 1821. General Santa Anna, who became main person in Mexico goverment, demanded from Texans to release all slaves and leave country. But Texans rose in revolt and in 1836 Santa Annas troops annihilated every defender of messiah Alamo. There was a call throughout Texas to revenge for all decedents. The members of people's volunteer corps leading by Sam Houston completely routed mexicans in the Battle of San Jacinto and proclaimed independance of Texas. In 1845 Texas Republic was admitted to the U.S. as a constituent state of the Union.

Today Texas is second largest state in U.S. after Alaska and second most populous after California. In East Texas, where the landscape and accents recall the South, giant cities like Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston have grown from stockyards and railroad stops to become gleaming metropolises where IT and energy companies run the economic table. In South Texas the state's Anglo culture becomes more and more distant, the sounds of Tejano music and the aroma of chili con carne becoming ever more present the closer you get to the Rio Grande. And out in West Texas, well, out in West Texas all the lights and sounds and bustle of the rest of the state, the rest of the world, drop away into quiet desert night.

Other details:

  • The large size of the state and its location at the intersection of several climate zones gives the state highly variable weather. In general, though, there are three main climate zones: the humid subtropical climate of the eastern half of Texas, the temperate semi-arid steppe climate of the northwestern part, including the Panhandle, and the subtropical steppe climate of the southern parts of West Texas, particularly around El Paso.
  • As of 2005, the state has an estimated population of 23,507,783
  • The racial distribution are: 84.14% White; 12.09% Black or African; 3.62% Asian; 0.17% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; and 1.1% American Indian or Alaskan Native.
  • The largest cities figure prominently in the economy, culture, and heritage of Texas, the American South and Southwest. As of 2000, six incorporated places in Texas had populations greater than 500,000, which two are global cities: Houston and Dallas. Texas has a total of 25 metropolitan areas, with four having populations over 1 million and two over 5 million.
  • Texas is known for its love of American football and is noted for the intensity with which people follow high school and college football teams—often dominating over all else for the purposes of socializing and leisure. The Dallas Cowboys are often referred to as "America's Team." The Houston Oilers left to become the Tennessee Titans, but the Houston Texans took their place. For one season, in 1995, Texas was also host to a Canadian Football League team, the San Antonio Texans.
  • The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, located nearly equidistant from downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth, is the largest airport in the state, the second largest in the United States, and fourth largest in the world. [56] In terms of traffic, DFW is the busiest in the state, third busiest in the United States, and sixth busiest in the world. The airport serves 135 domestic destinations and 37 international, and is the largest and main hub for American Airlines (900 daily departures), the world's largest airline, and also the largest hub for American Eagle.
