Hagerstown is a city in Washington County, Maryland, United States. The population was 36,687 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Washington CountyGR6. It is a city on the edge of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The City also has its own Metropolitan Area (Hagerstown-Martinsburg,MD-WV,MSA). The population of the Metropolitan Area in 2000 was 222,771 and the 2006 estimate is 257,619 (U.S. Rank: 169th). Hagerstown is the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the State of Maryland. Hagerstown is Western Maryland's Largest City. Hagerstown is Maryland's fifth largest city, if the total urban area would be one city, it would be Maryland's second-most populous city.

It is known as the "Hub City," due to the large number of roads and other transit that cross the city. These include but are not limited to Interstate 81, Interstate 70, U.S. Route 11, U.S. Route 40,U.S. Route 77 and the Western Maryland Railroad. It is home to the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum as well.

The city is served by Hagerstown Regional Airport. It is home to the Hagerstown Suns baseball club of the Single A South Atlantic League.
